Clay & Bean
Coffee Shop Branding & Illustration

Clay & Bean is a coffee shop in Woodford Bridge, London. More than coffee—it’s a space built by the REFAB Team with hand-crafted clay plaster walls, natural materials, and earthy tones. A hub for community, creativity, and sustainability, where high-quality origin coffee meets design rooted in nature. Every detail, from the benches to the counter, was made on-site. The name unites its essence: clay from clay plaster and craft, bean for coffee. The branding reflects these core values—authenticity, sustainability, and inspiration.

Brand Positioning
An independent coffee shop: Pause. Enjoy. Belong.

More than a coffee stop, Clay & Bean is an independent space shaped by care and authenticity. It invites people to slow down, enjoy specialty coffee, and feel part of a community. From cyclists and commuters to gym - goers and dog walkers, everyone finds a moment of pause here. It celebrates the simple things: quality coffee, genuine conversations, and a natural respect for the environment.
Brief
Clay & Bean needed a logo and visual identity that captured its essence: more than a coffee stop, but a community space shaped by authenticity, sustainability, and simple pleasures. The challenge was to design something minimal and memorable, while still expressing the brand’s warmth and distinct personality. To ensure longevity, the logotype avoided overly expressive or trendy typography, instead staying grounded in a restrained, timeless style that reflects the brand’s crafted and authentic character.

Solution
I created a clean visual identity built around a versatile logo, supported by an earthy secondary palette inspired by clay and coffee tones. The design drew directly from the brand’s core interests, resulting in an identity that reflects Clay & Bean’s values — quality, craft, and community — while remaining simple, adaptable, and instantly recognizable. The system works seamlessly across print and digital applications, ensuring consistency from signage and packaging to social media and web.
